EXPLORE - STEM students have just begun a biomedical engineering unit on designing a response to a viral outbreak.  They have to use the engineering design process to create a model virus that attaches to a model cell, then create an antiviral that will prevent the virus from spreading.  Their first task was to engineer a quarantine box where they could work with the virus (UV glow powder) without contaminating the environment.  We then tested the box with a UV light to see how much the virus spread after performing a procedure.
