Kindergarten News for December

Winter is finally upon us. Please remember our playground is very cold. Send in hat, mittens, snowpants, and boots (when we get snow), as students will go out for recess daily, weather and temperature permitting. When we have snow, socks often get wet outside so an extra pair of socks in the backpack would be helpful.  Please make sure students bring shoes to wear during the day so they do not have to stay in boots all day.

Reading bags are going to still come home but have slowed down because we are doing Sounds Sensible every day. This makes it hard to get books for students every day.  For more homework ideas, students can always practice writing stories at home, read and spell words, make rhyming words, or use magnetic letters to make words. Playing board games like Scrabble Junior, Candyland or playing TopIt (War) are good activities for developing literacy and math and social skills. Students need to be learning to read and spell the 25 high frequency words. I have sent home the list of 25 high frequency words but let me know if you need it again. Please work with them at home.  Homework can be 1 minute times the students age.

We are going to make gingerbread men the last full week of school December 12-16. We will need 2- 5 lb bags of flour, 2 boxes of brown sugar, 2 containers of molasses, several containers of white frosting to decorate with, and candy to decorate the gingerbread men.  If you can send in something for the gingerbread men, we would appreciate it by December 12, 2016.

On December 20, 2016 both Kindergarten classes will participate in holiday activities.  They will decorate their gingerbread cookies,  make a gingerbread ornament and a candy cane ornament.

Don’t forget the Winter Concert is Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 6:30. Mr. Corcoran has a flyer about the concert.
