Kindergarten News

We finished February with our Valentine’s Day celebration, stories, and the exchange of cards.  For Presidents’ Day we studied George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  We also had a great time doing many activities to celebrate the 100th day of school!  We began March with our “In like a lion and out like a lamb” activities.  For Science, as students worked with models, we made observations and recorded their observations in their Launch Logs to illustrate the structures and describe the functions of each part.

In writing, students have written information pieces about Martin Luther King Jr. and are currently working on writing opinion pieces.  Students need help with continued reading practice of the books they bring home, their letter recognition and letter sounds, their “Need to Know” popcorn words (sight words), and counting to 100 by 1’s.  Most students are doing great with counting by 10’s.  Some can even count by 5’s, a first grade standard!!!

Be sure to check Mastery Connect at the end of March for your child’s most current progress and comments.

We are excited and looking forward to our field trip on April 12th to the Music Hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire to see a play about the book “The Rainbow Fish”.  Look for more detailed information in your child’s blue envelope and please return the permission slip with the required ticket fee.
