Students have
enjoyed the beginning of our new PLTW unit: Structure and Function of the Human
Body. We investigated inner body organs and discussed their
structure and function. We then cut out colored representations of
the inner organs and glued them to the appropriate place on the inner body
outline. We then labeled the parts. After that, we colored our outer bodies. Check out the photos. We
will continue to explore more organs and body structures. They will
make observations as they interact with models and describe the structures of
each part.
February is a
busy month with Groundhog Day, Valentines Day, the 100th Day of
School, Presidents’ Day, and Winter Break. Don’t forget that Friday
the 17th is a 12:30 Early Release Day.
Barring any more
“Snow Days”, the 100th day of school will be on
Wednesday,
February 15th! Can you believe it is here already? Can
you please help your child find 100 identical small things to
bring to school? You may send them in any time between now and
then. Some examples are: 100 popcorn kernels, 100 toothpicks, 100
mini-marshmallows, 100 Cheerios, 100 M&M’s, 100 chocolate chips, 100
buttons, 100 small LEGO pieces, etc. Try to keep the size of what
you send in to items small enough to fit in one sandwich size or medium size
zip lock bag. If your child brings something edible, it will
probably not make it back home. We will have fun dividing it as
equally as possible with our classmates! Anything non-edible will be
returned. Have fun and be creative.
We will be
exchanging Valentine cards on Tuesday, the 14th. Please
make sure to include a card for all members of the class. If anyone
would like to send in Valentine’s Day treats, please let us know in advance so
that we can plan accordingly.
